120919-N-KB563-031 PHILIPPINE SEA (Sept. 19, 2012) Marine pilot Maj. Howard Longwell, assigned to Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 542, approaches the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in an an AV-8B Harrier jet aircraft. The Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group (BHR ARG) and the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) are participating in a certification exercise (CERTEX). CERTEX is an evaluated event that focuses on the BHR ARG and 31st MEU's capabilities in missions such as humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and non-combatant evacuation operations.
